A Senior Dental Nurse (Band 5 Registered Dental Nurse) position has become available in the Maxillofacial Outpatient Department at University Hospitals Southampton. Head and neck oncology, skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, facial trauma, and orthodontic surgery are among the clinics that we offer at the primary hospital site. Our team comprises six consultants, eight dental nurses, and one associate nurse practitioner, in addition to intermediate staff.

In order to guarantee that all maxillofacial clinics are staffed by a nurse in charge, the senior dental nurse is required to assume responsibility for specific duties and days. We are currently seeking a candidate to fill the position within the next 30 hours on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The department is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, there may be an occasional need to work on weekends and evenings due to fluctuating healthcare demands.

The senior dental nurse will assist the dental nurse manager in the provision of oral and maxillofacial services, which will include the procurement of essential equipment and consumables within the established budget.

The senior dental nurse will be obligated to participate in the annual evaluation of dental nurses and to identify any opportunities for training and development within the group.

The senior dental nurse will collaborate with the dental nurse manager to plan the provision of dental nurses within the department, which includes the recruitment process, as part of their responsibilities.

The senior dental nurse is anticipated to assume an additional function in order to provide support for critical connections, including fire, health and safety, and safeguarding.

The Senior Dental Nurse position is necessitated to ensure that the Trust Duty roster is maintained in accordance with the contracted hours of the staff, which includes the provision of annual leave.
