The EHRI-ERIC Conny Kristel Fellowships 2025 offer international researchers the opportunity to conduct Holocaust-related research at one or more of EHRI’s partner institutions across Europe and beyond. Aimed at early to mid-career scholars, the fellowship supports access to extensive archival sources, specialized libraries, and expert networks in the field of Holocaust studies. What’s the Opportunity?
The Conny Kristel Fellowship provides selected applicants with the opportunity to conduct critical Holocaust-related research at prestigious archives and institutions in numerous countries, including the Czech Republic, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Romania, and Austria. The program is named in recognition of Conny Kristel, a historian who made substantial contributions to the field of Holocaust research and the development of EHRI.
Fellows are encouraged to participate in research projects that investigate the Holocaust’s origins, impacts, aftermath, and the enduring effects of antisemitism. Additionally, projects that pertain to the administration and accessibility of archival materials are encouraged.
Although applicants at all career stages are encouraged to submit applications, this year’s fellowship is particularly accessible to early-career researchers, including PhD students.
What’s Covered?
- Housing and living expenses in the host country are included in the stipend.
- Travel expenses to and from the host institution(s) will be reimbursed.
- Access to research facilities, libraries, archival collections, and workstations
- Fellowship duration flexibility: 1 to 6 weeks of residence, with the option of an extension at the recipient’s expense.
- Option to consolidate multiple institutions into a single fellowship application
- Fellows are not obligated to submit utilization reports in order to receive their allowance.
Fellows must organize their own travel and visa (if needed), and ensure availability before 31 December 2026, when all tenures must be completed.
